Re: Photocopier

There have been recurring problems with the office photocopier, particularly with paper jams. I believe the problem is with the type of machine we have. A machine of this size simply does not have the capacity to handle the amount of copying we normally do. Obviously we can't _____(1) the number of copies we make.

I suggest that it's time to order a larger and _____(2) machine.

I have looked through the catalogs and discovered several machines that I think would suit our needs. I have selected the most _____(3) ones, as I know we have a limited amount of money to spend.

Since you are in charge of making large purchases like this, I will need our approval before I go ahead and place the order. Let me know which of the machines you think is best, and I will fill out the purchase order.

Thanks.

Drake Hartford 10:38
I'm at the reception area for Dandridge & Associates to check up on the painting crew's progress. I'm not sure about the paint color being used on the rear wall. It's that deep green tone Ms. Bryant wanted, but it doesn't match well with the flooring or front desk.

Dolly O'Hare 10:42
I was afraid that might be the case as it seemed too dark. Could you drop by her office and ask her to come have a look at it? Maybe you can suggest a few colors that are more suitable.

Drake Hartford 10:45
OK. I'll see if she is available and let you know what she wants to do. I'll recommend some colors as well. I think light brown, ivory, or even beige would look nice.

Drake Hartford 10:58
She came and had a look and completely agrees with us. So, I've told the crew members not to continue painting that wall today. She will go with the first option I proposed.

Dolly O'Hare 11:00
Perfect. OK, go ahead and have Triple A Hardware mix up the paint the crew will need. You can get it delivered to the site and have the store bill my account.

Drake Hartford 11:09
I just asked Triple A about the paint, but they are backlogged with other orders and deliveries. The soonest the new paint can be here is at 1 P.M. on Wednesday.

Dolly O'Hare 11:11
No worries. The crew is ahead of schedule anyway, so they can work on other tasks in the meantime.

30. At 10:42, what does Ms. O'Hare mean when she writes, "that might be the case"?
31. What color of paint will be delivered to Dandridge & Associates?

August 27th

Reginald Mercer, Attorney at Law
19 Market Close,
Newport, MD55055

Dear Mr. Mercer:
This confirms that we have received your August 18th letter and the draft of the distribution contract you enclosed. I have read the draft thoroughly and discussed it with my client, Mr. Fukazawa. The following initial points will need to be resolved before we can move ahead with negotiating the finer points of the contract:
. Term. The term would need to be at least ten years before my client could seriously consider entering into the contract.
. Unit Price. The unit price would need to be at least $140.50 before my client could consider the contract financially feasible.
. Controlling Law. My client does business only in the State of New York and does not desire to engage a lawyer in Maine, so the contract will need to provide that New York law controls.
. Publicity. My client requests that the last sentence of paragraph 3 on page 2 of the contract be changed to read as follows: "Publicity given to the program or services provided herein, including, but not limited to, notices, information, pamphlets, press releases, research, reports, signs, and similar public notices prepared by or for the Licensor, shall identify the Agency as the sponsoring agency and wil not be released without prior written approval from the Agency."
Please discuss these points with your client at your earliest convenience and let me know if your client is willing to pursue negotiation of a contract along these lines.

Yours truly,
Adrian Cope,

cc: T.Fukazawa

Naturally, we will cover all expenses. Since we are pressed for time, you will have to sign up as soon as possible. Planet Voyage September Issue
The Solo Traveler: Seabird Ocean Liners
By Rica Foust

Seabird Ocean Liners offers getaways from Los Angeles to a variety of destinations on the West Coast of North America. I booked myself a three-night cruise from Los Angeles to Baja, and must say that the experience was well worth the cost of the trip. The rooms were modern, comfortable, and spacious for a cruise ship. Housekeeping was exceptional and my stateroom was always clean.

Although smaller than some cruise liners, the vessel I took boasts a modest pool, a restaurant, and a recreational deck. Because of the vessel's size, I found it easy to get the crew's attention and to get to know my fellow passengers. In fact, I made several new friends on the trip. If you're not the outgoing type, the crew organizes fun activities designed to help passengers relax around one another. Now, whether your goal as a solo traveler is to enjoy time alone or to meet new people, I think you will be satisfied with the overall experience. Taken against the backdrop of Baja's beautiful scenery, it was one I will remember for years to come.
