Pat Fiorentino 3:10 I am guessing most of you read the article in yesterday's newspaper about the city's growing trash problem. Mayor Watkins wants the city to address the issue right away, and he wants us to put together a list of recommendations to present at the next council meeting. Are there any initial thoughts?
Vickie Hill 3:11 I think a media campaign would be helpful. We can focus on the concepts of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Lloyd Medrano 3:12 Sounds great. I couldn't agree more. But I also think we need to provide more containers to dispose of trash, especially in public areas and parks. The sanitation department has complained about a shortage.
Marcella Sanders 3:13 They also say they're understaffed. We could hire more employees, but the difficult part is figuring out how to pay for everything.
Dennis Kang 3:15 As long as you can come up with a solid plan of action, I can figure out how to supply the funding.
Pat Fiorentino 3:15 Thanks, Dennis. That will be a great help. OK, so I'd like us to meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 P.M. in conference room 3. We will have a brainstorming session, so write out your ideas and recommendations. Will that be a problem for anyone?
Lloyd Medrano 3:16 That works for me. I have a meeting at 4 P.M., though. Will we be done by then?
Dennis Kang 3:16 I'll be free. Maybe we should get the head of the sanitation department to come as well.
Marcella Sanders 3:17 I have the day off tomorrow, but I'll send some ideas to you by e-mail before I leave today.
Pat Fiorentino 3:17 We should be, Lloyd. Yes, Dennis, that's an excellent suggestion, so I'll give Edith Holmes a call right now. Thanks, Marcella.

30. What have Ms. Fiorentino and her colleagues been asked to do?
31. At 3:12, what does Mr. Medrano mean when he writes, "I couldn't agree more"?
32. What has NOT been recommended as a solution to the city's trash problem?
33. What is suggested about Edith Holmes?

Most visitors to our city spend time visiting some of the many museums that we are famous for. The City Art Museum, Museum of History, National University Museum of Scientific Research, and the Hall of Presidents are among the most popular destinations for museum-goers. The National Transportation Museum, currently undergoing renovations, is scheduled to reopen next year with a larger number of exhibits and extended hours.

Visitors to the City Art Museum can admire the collection of paintings by local artists as well as famous works of art from around the world. The museum's collection covers a wide spectrum of artists and styles, and critics have called it one of the most significant in the world. Art classes offered at the museum provide both the serious and the casual students of art with opportunities to explore the world of artistic expression. The Museum of History features rotating exhibits focusing on various aspects of our nation's history, and a permanent collection of portraits of our nation's presidents. This summer's special exhibit focuses on the history of fashion. The National University Museum of Scientific Research specializes in exhibits on research undertaken at the university. It also features a special hands-on exhibit for children.

All museums have the same entrance price: $10 for adults and $5 for children. A special $35 weekly pass, available at any museum, allows the holder entrance to all city museums for a week. This pass is especially recommended to visitors from out of town as it provides the opportunity to visit all the museums at their leisure.

Hi Rica,

I have something you may be interested in. It relates to solo travel, which has become increasingly popular lately. To keep up with this growing trend, we would like to feature a review of a cruise that offers solo travel in our next issue. Would you be willing to take this assignment? Naturally, we will cover all expenses. Since we are pressed for time, you will have to sign up as soon as possible. Planet Voyage September Issue
The Solo Traveler: Seabird Ocean Liners
By Rica Foust

Seabird Ocean Liners offers getaways from Los Angeles to a variety of destinations on the West Coast of North America. I booked myself a three-night cruise from Los Angeles to Baja, and must say that the experience was well worth the cost of the trip. The rooms were modern, comfortable, and spacious for a cruise ship. Housekeeping was exceptional and my stateroom was always clean.

Although smaller than some cruise liners, the vessel I took boasts a modest pool, a restaurant, and a recreational deck. Because of the vessel's size, I found it easy to get the crew's attention and to get to know my fellow passengers. In fact, I made several new friends on the trip. If you're not the outgoing type, the crew organizes fun activities designed to help passengers relax around one another. Now, whether your goal as a solo traveler is to enjoy time alone or to meet new people, I think you will be satisfied with the overall experience. Taken against the backdrop of Baja's beautiful scenery, it was one I will remember for years to come.

39. Why did Mr. Whitmore write to Ms. Foust?
40. Which sail date did Ms. Foust most likely reserve?
41. What is indicated about Seabird Ocean Liner?
42. In the review, the word "exceptional" is closest in meaning to
43. What can be inferred about Ms. Foust?
