To: Kathryn Hale
From: Stacy Mott
Subject: Budget Proposal

Dear Ms. Hale,

After reviewing last year's budget figures, I would like to propose a few changes to this year's budget plan. If these changes are accepted, I predict that the company will reduce its operation costs by approximately 40 percent. First, I noticed that the company allocated one fourth of its total budget to purchasing office supplies. Of the office supplies that we purchase each year, paper is by far the most expensive. I think that requiring all employees to print documents on both sides of the paper will significantly cut down on costs. Second, the company currently employs 200 people; however, only about 150 people are needed for the company to function properly. Therefore, I propose the company reduces its workforce by 50 people before the start of the next fiscal year. I realize that this second proposal may seem drastic, but according to my estimates, if the company does not significantly cut costs by the end of December 2008, it will be forced to file for bankruptcy.

Sincerely,

Stacy Mott

TO Evan Baughman
FROM Rayleen Webb
SUBJECT Re: Post-conference activity
DATE April 30

Evan,

I checked the Port Royal Cruises Web site you mentioned. I agree that it would be a fun activity for those of us from the company attending the conference in Jamaica in June. I contacted the company to find out about renting the ship, and the cost is $7,500 per day including meals, staff, accommodation, and tours. So, a two-day rental would fall within our budget. We could depart on Friday and be back in Port Royal on Sunday morning, in time for our return flights to Edmonton in the afternoon.

If needed, the ship has audiovisual equipment we can use, and Internet access is available. It also has a paid laundry service, and the cruise line's bus can pick us up at the Mont Drake Resort where the conference is taking place.

I'll proceed with the booking once you give me your consent.

Rayleen

Subject: August Calendar
Date: July 19

I have been asked to inform you of some changes to the summer events calendar. I would like to ask you to add these changes to the calendar posted in your offices, and to be sure to announce them at your monthly sales meeting at the end of this month. I have attached a copy of the original calendar, but I am afraid you will have to mark the changes for yourselves.

The first change is to the date of visit from the Japan-America Society. This has been postponed for a week and will happen the following Wednesday instead. Next, the annual softball tournament was marked incorrectly as Thursday and Friday, the 25th and 26th. It will be held, as always, on the fourth Friday and Saturday of August. In other words, the 26th and 27th. Finally, the meeting on August 31st is canceled.
Thanks for noting the changes.

Jason Potter
