Airport Expansion in the Works

FORT REGINALD - The Fort Reginald Ministry of Transportation is currently finalizing plans to expand Mirabel International Airport. According to sources, a minimum of 142 million Euro, more than half coming from overseas investment, is to be earmarked for the project. The Ministry cites the steady increase in air traffic and the deregulation of air transport as the major factors that have led to the elaboration of a project for the expansion and modernization of the current airport.

The main feature of the project will be a major new addition to the terminal, to be designed by the architect Santiago Cervantes. This will expand the total size of the air terminal to cover an area of 25,000 square meters, including five additional gates, and experts estimate it will be capable to handle 2.5 million passengers per year. The groundbreaking ceremony is slated for early this September, and construction is expected to be completed in about 18 months.

39. Where will the largest portion of the funding for the expansion come from?
40. What is NOT part of the proposed plan for the airport?

USER REVIEW: Wheel-Pals Carpooling Application
By Jason Diaz (jdiaz@vastpost.co.au)
★★★★☆

Wheel-Pals recently launched its service in the Auckland area, and having already used the application while living in Brisbane, I was one of the first to sign up. As before, I purchased the basic package because, in the past, it had enough services to help me form carpool groups with other drivers or riders that live nearby. However, I don't think Wheel-Pals has done enough to promote its launch in this area. I sometimes find it difficult to find people to carpool with. In Brisbane, I only drove my car to work once or twice a week, but now I have to do it more often. Also, few people that I know locally are even aware of the application.

Rochester Times
Keeping up with the times

ROCHESTER—Train and subway stations across the state now offer passengers comfortable waiting areas, spacious platforms, and better safety features. Sadly, Rochester Central Station is lagging behind. This current situation, however, is expected to come to an end soon. The city government has been negotiating with financiers and the federal government to procure funding for renovating and enlarging the Rochester railway facility, which was built back in the early 1950s. Local government officials hope that there will be sufficient funds to proceed with much-needed updates and expansions within a few weeks. Should financing be secured, starting on February l, the city plans to request proposals from contractors with ideas for making Rochester Central Station a transport facility that residents can be proud of. Plans call for the inclusion of additional retail and dining facilities, enlarged waiting areas, two new platforms, and an upgraded ticketing counter and an automated payment system. Officials are positive that financing will be found and that Rochester will have a fully upgraded station by the end of next year.

Aside from a bid, we will need a filled-out application form, a feasibility study, and a detailed proposal that includes a timetable and a budget estimate. All bids should be sealed in an envelope and brought to City Hall in person along with everything else. We are now in the stage of officially accepting bids, and the deadline for application is March 1. Thank you, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions.
