Caldera Junior Bicycle Hitch Recall

Northwind Cycle is recalling the Caldera Junior bicycle accessory for repair. If you think you may have an affected Caldera Junior, stop using it immediately! The hitch connecting it to the bicycle can fail, causing the Caldera Junior to become unstable, which may result in injury. The Caldera Junior "tandem bicycle accessory" consists of a frame, wheel, seat, pedals, and handlebars. It attaches to the back of a standard bicycle by a hitch. Bicycle stores and retailers nationwide sold the Caldera Junior from March 2000 through July 2001. Caldera Juniors were also sold under the name "Caldera Mongoose," with a "Mongoose" logo appearing on the frame. The recalled Caldera Junior has the model number AC 100, AC 200, or AC 300, on the top tube. Also, recalled Caldera Juniors have an aluminum sleeve on the hitch between the bicycle and the Caldera Junior. Caldera Juniors with nylon or plastic sleeves on the hitch are not included in this recall. Contact us or the retailer from whom you purchased your bike to get a new hitch. Northwind Cycle can be reached at 800-626-2811 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, for a free replacement hitch and instructions.

17. What is a Caldera Junior according to the notice?
18. Which models of the Caldera Junior are not being recalled?
19. What reason is given for the recall?

Investigators have recently found that some insurance companies are using unethical techniques to charge life insurance policy owners more money. The method: blood pressure tests. As part of routine life insurance policy applications, applicants must take a blood pressure test. But some companies administer the test with an armband that is too tight for the client. This tight armband raises the likelihood of a high blood pressure reading, ultimately resulting in a higher monthly premium payment for the client. If you believe that you have had a similar experience, please call your local Better Business Bureau and file a complaint.

The Federal Department of Labor has announced that the unemployment rate has decreased this year by 2%. This decrease has surprised experts who predicted a 3%-5% increase. In addition to the decrease, the federal government has released research that shows the dollar value has improved compared to its international exchange rate at this time last year. This improvement has also come as a surprise to analysts who predicted the dollar would remain stable. The Federal Department of Labor attributes these improvements to a smaller workforce.

Economic analysts have gone on record to say that these changes should prove beneficial for the country's general fiscal health over the course of the next year, as competition should increase and consumership will improve. The increase in value of the dollar is usually attributed to higher salaries throughout the workforce. Investors have also responded positively to this information as the stock market has experienced consistent growth over the past two quarters.

29. What change has the government reported?
30. What is predicted to happen over the next year?

HELEN COULTER [July 15, 9:54 A.M.] I hope you are all having a good break. I just heard back from the producer of Timelight this morning, and they would like to extend Kitchen Belle's catering contract for another two years. The studio has renewed the TV series. Shall we keep the same schedule as last year, or would you like to switch times?
ELAINE PAINTER [July 15, 10:00 A.M.] That's great news! It will guarantee the business a steady income. I know Henry Lincoln usually does breakfast, but as long as he doesn't have a problem with it, can I take the morning shift instead of lunch this time?
GRAHAM FULTON [July 15, 10:04 A.M.] It's fine by him. He's with me now and just told me so, Elaine. He'd actually prefer midday. As for me, I want to stick with the breakfast shift. Will there be any extra evening shoots this year?
HELEN COULTER [July 15, 10:05 A.M.] So Elaine and Graham can do the 7:30-11:00 shift, and Henry and I will do 11:30-3:30. There will be some evening shifts for extra pay, but none that will end past midnight. In addition, the show will also be filmed outside the studio this season, so we'll have to make adjustments. Anyway, we can discuss that issue when we return from vacation next week.
ELAINE PAINTER [July 15, 10:07 A.M.] Will the number of cast and crew be the same?
GRAHAM FULTON [July 15, 10:07 A.M.] It sounds like more work than last year.
HELEN COULTER [July 15, 10:08 A.M.] Yes, Elaine. There will be a total of 88 to feed rather than 67. And Graham, I think it will be more work. But they are paying us more, so I think we can afford to hire a couple of food preparation assistants.

31. At 10:04 A.M., what does Mr. Fulton most likely mean when he writes, "It's fine by him"?

Hello everyone,

Our annual staff meeting and banquet will be taking place, as usual, at the end of October, and we are pleased to announce that a venue has been finalized for the event. -[1]-. We will be convening at the Palatial Hotel at 3316 Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, at 9 A.M. on October 27. The meeting is expected to run until around 6 P.M., with a short, catered lunch at noon. Ms. Carol Lambert
Coby Electronics
P.O. Box 2
Framingham, MA 01702

October 27, 2007

Dear Ms. Lambert,

On October 10, 2007, I purchased a Coby 135 MP3 player from your Helena, Montana dealership. After only two weeks of use, the device started to show significant problems with downloading music from the Internet. I made a complaint to the branch manager, but he told me to contact the manufacturer instead.

According to my product warranty, however, the seller is fully responsible for any defects up to 60 days after the purchase of the item. It also states that a customer is eligible for a full refund or replacement with a new product in such a case. As I purchased the product at a Coby's branch, my contract was made with Coby Electronics, not with the manufacturer.

On top of that, since the Helena branch manager was inappropriately impolite in dealing with my issues, I have no intention to get a replacement. Therefore, I am requesting a full refund of the purchase immediately. Additionally, please confirm that you have received this letter as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Hermanson

I am a new customer at your bank. I opened an account with you last month, and I have recently received my first monthly statement. I find that there is a service charge on three of the checks that I wrote. I understood that this account had free checking, so I was surprised to see this charge. Perhaps it is a mistake. Dear Mr. Gardner,

We recently received your letter asking about charges to your account. While it is true that your account has free checking, some restrictions apply. You may write five checks a month free of charge. After that you must maintain a minimum average balance of $600 in your account in order to continue with free checking. Since your average account balance last month was only $435, you were entitled to only five free checks. A service charge was applied to the checks you wrote beyond that minimum. I hope this explanation is satisfactory to you.

Let me take this opportunity to make sure that you are aware of other services you can get with your account. You can arrange to have your monthly utility bills deducted from your account. You are also eligible to borrow small amounts of money from the bank at a low interest rate. If you are interested in these or an other services, please visit us at the bank, and an officer will be happy to explain all the details to you. Thanks you for being a National Bank of August customer.

Subject: Details for Conference on December 2

Hi, Chris!

First, I'd like to express my excitement that you've agreed to speak at this year's technology conference. As you know, Runt Corporation has been organizing this event for the last ten years to promote innovation in the computer industry.

In my previous email, I told you that the conference would start at 8 a.m., but it has been changed to 9 a.m. becase a few of the companies who will be providing exhibits wanted a little more time to set up their product displays. Now, when you get to the conference center, you will have to pass through security. Please hand the security guard the four-digit code that I gave you, and he will issue you a temporary visitor's ID badge. You will need to wear this badge at all times while you are in the building.

If you need us to provide any equipment, such as a laptop computer, or overhead projector, please contact the event organizer, Martin Walsh. His email address is mwalsh@runtcorp.com. You can also reach him by phone at 1-529-236-1478.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions that you might have. I look forward to meeting you on the day of the conference.

Dear Mrs. Volt,

Thank you so much for your kind email. I am also very excited to speak at your conference. My company's innovative business strategy has greatly increased our profit margins and I am confident that, if implemented properly, it will help any computer company improve its total computer sales.

Since the subject I plan to cover is rather technical, I have asked one of my colleagues, Bill Front, to give a brief PowerPoint presentation to familiarize the audience with a few new technology terms. Mr. Front is a software designer who has been working for Spectron Inc. for five year. His innovative product designs have contributed greatly to Spectron's success in the last three years.

With regard to equipment, I will need a couple of things for the presentation. I will leave a list of required items with the event organizer when I visit his office on Wednesdday, November 25. Thanks for all of your help.
