Proposal for funding of new communications studio at Weston College in Burmingham, Alabama

Background: Weston College has offered matriculating students as well as statewide high school students opportunities to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful in a variety of disciplines within the mass communications field for 20 years. With a small communications program of 100 students, Weston is able to provide students with one-on-one attention and instill program participants with a wide spectrum of educational facilities in order to promote a well-rounded student population. The private college receives less than 5% of its annual income from public funds and mostly relies on private endowments for scholarship and facilities.

Proposal Project: The mass communications department, by request of the students, has decided to create a local television station which would provide community members an outlet for public service announcements, calendars and promotion of non-commercial, not-for-profit events. The station would be entirely student-run with the exception of school advisors and mentors.

Needs: To maintain a competitive status within the educational community. Weston College must keep up with technological advancements made in the communications industry. In order to continue to draw in top achieving students, the school should be able to continually provide students with all the educational facilities larger universities are offering without increasing matriculation costs.

Donor Benefits: The Weston College production studio will honor the program's top donors by using their name on the building and they will be recognized during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the time of the studio's grand opening. Other donors will be recognized publicly when the station is up and running.

15. Why does the college want to build this facility?
16. How will donations from individuals be used?
17. What will the college do to thank the highest donors?
18. Who made the proposal for the new center?

Health Note March

The Truth About Supplements? (continued from page 19)
So, ideally, maintaining a varied diet is enough to satisfy the nutritional requirements of adults aged 65 and older. However, some seniors may find this difficult to do, as they lack time and find preparing nutritious meals to be too challenging. In such cases, many doctors agree that taking vitamins and other supplements may be helpful. Even so, physicians believe that these supplements should be carefully regulated so as not to cause unintended harm. According to a controlled study1 by the Research Institute for Aging, some vitamins and minerals can be toxic when ingested in large amounts. For this reason, getting the advice of a trusted and qualified physician before beginning a vitamin regimen is recommended.

1-Health Note was granted advance access to the study, which will soon be available for publication.

Dear Mr. Gardner,

We recently received your letter asking about charges to your account. While it is true that your account has free checking, some restrictions apply. You may write five checks a month free of charge. After that you must maintain a minimum average balance of $600 in your account in order to continue with free checking. Since your average account balance last month was only $435, you were entitled to only five free checks. A service charge was applied to the checks you wrote beyond that minimum. I hope this explanation is satisfactory to you.

Let me take this opportunity to make sure that you are aware of other services you can get with your account. You can arrange to have your monthly utility bills deducted from your account. You are also eligible to borrow small amounts of money from the bank at a low interest rate. If you are interested in these or an other services, please visit us at the bank, and an officer will be happy to explain all the details to you. To: Marjorie Morgan
From: Bill Smithers
Subject: Recruiting

Marjorie,

We need to start looking at recruiting some new staff members over the summer. Our company had gotten lots of new contracts recently. We have abundant work and need to take on two or three new employees to help with it. We should advertise the positions as entry-level with room for promotion. We should choose the job candidates carefully as I don't want to have to end up firing anyone who turns out to be a bad match. I would like the new staff members to start work by June 10. Therefore, we should ask interested candidates to submit their applications before the end of April so that we can start interviewing in early May. Please come up with a recruiting plan and let me know. Thanks.

Do not patronize this store!
Review posted on May 9 by S. Eggers

This is a review for Segovia Paints. Somehow, they mixed up my order and sent me the wrong item. When I contacted them about it, they didn't get back to me for a week! Since I needed the paint right away, I asked if they could send me the correct one using expedited delivery, but they refused to cover the cost. After wasting more time arguing back and forth, I decided to drive to their store on a weekend and speak to a manager in person. I was able to get the paint I wanted, and a partial refund, but the whole experience left me feeling completely dissatisfied. I do not recommend this store!
