Pat Fiorentino 3:10 I am guessing most of you read the article in yesterday's newspaper about the city's growing trash problem. Mayor Watkins wants the city to address the issue right away, and he wants us to put together a list of recommendations to present at the next council meeting. Are there any initial thoughts?
Vickie Hill 3:11 I think a media campaign would be helpful. We can focus on the concepts of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Lloyd Medrano 3:12 Sounds great. I couldn't agree more. But I also think we need to provide more containers to dispose of trash, especially in public areas and parks. The sanitation department has complained about a shortage.
Marcella Sanders 3:13 They also say they're understaffed. We could hire more employees, but the difficult part is figuring out how to pay for everything.
Dennis Kang 3:15 As long as you can come up with a solid plan of action, I can figure out how to supply the funding.
Pat Fiorentino 3:15 Thanks, Dennis. That will be a great help. OK, so I'd like us to meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 P.M. in conference room 3. We will have a brainstorming session, so write out your ideas and recommendations. Will that be a problem for anyone?
Lloyd Medrano 3:16 That works for me. I have a meeting at 4 P.M., though. Will we be done by then?
Dennis Kang 3:16 I'll be free. Maybe we should get the head of the sanitation department to come as well.
Marcella Sanders 3:17 I have the day off tomorrow, but I'll send some ideas to you by e-mail before I leave today.
Pat Fiorentino 3:17 We should be, Lloyd. Yes, Dennis, that's an excellent suggestion, so I'll give Edith Holmes a call right now. Thanks, Marcella.

13. What have Ms. Fiorentino and her colleagues been asked to do?
14. At 3:12, what does Mr. Medrano mean when he writes, "I couldn't agree more"?
15. What has NOT been recommended as a solution to the city's trash problem?
16. What is suggested about Edith Holmes?

Greenway Community Center Launches Sustainable Living Workshops
By Mina Carter

Greenway Community Center has announced a new series of sustainable living workshops aimed at local residents.
"There has been growing interest from families and renters seeking practical skills in sustainable living," said program coordinator Laura Kim. The hands-on classes will cover urban gardening, basic home energy audits, and composting techniques, and will be led by local experts.
A modest fee will be charged for each workshop, and scholarships are available for low-income participants. The center will not provide childcare during sessions, but light refreshments will be available.
Classes begin in June, and interested participants can register at www.greenway.org.

Dear Ms. Carter,

Thank you for covering our new workshop series, but I must point out several inaccuracies in your article.

Your piece states that "Classes begin in June" and that people may register now at our website. That information is incorrect. Our classes will actually "begin in mid-July," and "registration will only open three weeks before the first class." In addition, the article implied the workshops were free; as stated in our release, "A modest fee will be charged."

We have received calls from readers asking about registration, which is why we would appreciate a correction in your next issue.

Sincerely,

Laura Kim

Please let me know once the schedule is "finalized" as I may attend the first session to write a follow-up piece.
