Engineering Firm to Expand

February 15 - Aucoin-Braud, the French engineering firm best known for its energy-efficient power generators, unveiled today its plans for expansion.

Speaking in a press conference in Paris, Aucoin-Braud President Simone Roux announced plans for the construction of a new global headquarters there.

Construction projects are also slated for the firm's foreign subsidiaries, Tecnologia, in Genoa, Italy, and Nonpareil, Inc. , in Brussels, Belgium. At both companies, additional production facilities will be built and staff sizes increased.

In order to focus on alternative energy sources such as ocean power, Aucoin-Braud will establish an additional subsidiary in another international market. When pressed by reporters to specify which, Roux declined to say, stating only that "Northern Europe has much potential in this respect and is important to our long-term goals. "

For industry analyst Dieter Veidt, this comes as no surprise. "Aucoin-Braud has invested heavily in ocean power technology, so Northern Europe nations like Denmark or Finland are perfect venues for the firm's expansion. "

Roux's final comment at the press conference will undoubtedly fuel speculation on this point. When asked what her short-term goals were, she replied that she is "planning a seaside vacation in Denmark. "

A trio of bands to treat fans at Shamrocks show

Frontman, Mike Furie, says the musicians in his band "Loud Furie" and fellow Syracuse rock bands "The Fergi Project" and "Little Secret" want to help make things right for their fans who bought tickets to see them open for Brian Michaels last week at the Regional Market Block Party.

That show - and shows scheduled on subsequent Thursday nights by "Asia" and "Loverboy" - have been canceled.

The opening bands were given tickets to sell to their fans, Furie explains. So "Loud Furie", "The Fergi Project" and "Little Secret" have scheduled a show together at 4 p.m. Sunday at Shamrocks, 1459 Taft Road, Syracuse. Admission is free for anybody who holds a ticket to the canceled Michaels show, or $10 for everybody else.

A nice touch: The band will donate the door money to Michaels' favorite charity, the American Diabetes Association. The musicians are calling it the Antidote Show.

Also, for fans of "Asia", western New York promoter Billy Pilo has his own show planned. "Asia" plays at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Main Street Armory, 78 Main St. , Rochester. Admission is free to the show as long as you bring a canned or dry food donation for Rochester food banks.

Lester Beebe Hits Stage in South Bend
By Adam Brown

A musical version of Michelle Gable's novel The Triumph of Lester Beebe is set to premiere next month on May 22. -[1]-. Set in South Bend, the show is the story of a teenage boy who is the son of an automobile factory worker in the 1960s. The book became a favorite of young adult readers when it was first printed in 1968. -[2]-.

Producers Todd Carlisle and Emma Wright were not even born when the book was first released but say they identified with Lester Beebe's adolescent struggles when first reading the story. "Lester Beebe isn't just a teenager from South Bend," says Carlisle, "he could be a young person from anywhere." In addition to being the show's producers, Carlisle and Wright manage the Eden Playhouse in South Bend. -[3]-. According to Wright, the area is not well-known for musical productions, but she hopes The Triumph of Lester Beebe will change that. "Todd and I are also counting on local interest to help in building an audience for the show," she said.

Playing the role of Beebe is actor Henry Thomas. Veteran performer Neil Chandler plays his father, while the roles of Beebe's sisters, Mandy and Corinne, will be realized by Stephanie O'Connor and Audrey Blanco. Following the run in South Bend, Carlisle and Wright will take the show to New York in August for its Broadway debut. -[4]-. Tickets for the South Bend show are on sale now through the Eden Playhouse at 555-0493.

NEW YORK - Synchia Enterprises, Inc. announced Monday that it has named Gary Myers as its new chief financial officer. Myers, formerly executive vice president and CFO at LoveJoy Co., will begin his new position June 12th. He will report directly to the Synchia Chairman and chief executive, Michael Spooner.

Myers, 52, replaces Cathy Fines, who is moving over to run Synchia's fledgling on-line music sales operation. There had been talk of moving Fines out of the CFO position for weeks, as Synchia's earnings came in below target and the company's stock faltered.

"Gary has a track record of helping companies to generate greater value, and his expertise in financial management, in addition to his significant experience in the consumer business, will boost our growth across the company," Spooner said in a written statement.

A Very Fruity Idea

Our cities are filled with trees, and the vast majority of those trees produce edible fruits. -[1]-. But with no one to collect and process them, most simply fall to the ground and rot, wasting a potentially excellent source of nutrition.

One new organization wants to change that. -[2]-. Fresh From The Tree is a non-profit group that aims to collect as much fruit as possible from the city's trees, and then make it into delicious snacks that can be sold at low prices to local residents.

"We have been doing a survey of the locations of all the fruit trees in town," says co-founder Michaela Anderson. "Once we have identified a promising tree, we contact the homeowners and ask if we can pick the fruit for them. -[3]-. They usually don’t have time to manage it themselves."

After the volunteers collect the fruit, they give half of it to the owners of the residence, and keep the other half to turn into fruit pies, jams, sorbets, and other tasty but healthy desserts. The group only has a handful of volunteers at the moment but are hoping to recruit more in the coming months. -[4]-. They are also negotiating with the city to collect fruit from trees on government property.

38. What is the article mainly about?
39. What does Fresh From The Tree do with the fruit it collects?

GNet Inc.
3124 Kipt Avenue, New kensington PA

To whom it may concern,

I am writing about the DMP5 I purchased on September 14 at your retail outlet in Forest Hills. It featured an electronic dictionary and an MP3 player. I spoke to the salesperson, whose name is a Michael Robertson, at length about my needs and told him that I was interested in durability rather than functions. He said he carried the DMP4 for $500 and the DMP% for $600. I knew that DMP4 was renowned for its durability. Mr. Robinson assured me that the DMP5 had recently come out with more functions and would hold up as well, if not better than the DMP4.

On Mr. Robertson's recommendation, I purchased the DMP5 and, upon receipt, he informed me that should I have a problem with it, I could exchange it for a new model as long as it was in the original packaging. Since GNet Inc. is not based locally, it would take too long to transport it to and from the maintenance department at your headquarters for processing. To save time, the retailer where I purchased the item said he would exchange it for a new one and send it back himself.

However, after one of use, I found the protective cover has been ineffective in protecting it from other objects in my bag, which caused the initial programming and operating problems. When explaining this to Mr. Robertson, he stated that I am not entitled to an exchange and should contact the company directly. Since the DMP5 was purchased on your retailer's recommendation, I would like to ask for an exchange.

I'd greatly appreciate it if this issue could be rectified immediately.

Sincerely,
Kim Severson
