Lester Beebe Hits Stage in South Bend

A musical version of Michelle Gable's novel The Triumph of Lester Beebe is set to premiere next month on May 22. -[1]-. Set in South Bend, the show is the story of a teenage boy who is the son of an automobile factory worker in the 1960s. The book became a favorite of young adult readers when it was first printed in 1968. -[2]-.

Producers Todd Carlisle and Emma Wright were not even born when the book was first released but say they identified with Lester Beebe's adolescent struggles when first reading the story. "Lester Beebe isn't just a teenager from South Bend," says Carlisle, "he could be a young person from anywhere." In addition to being the show's producers, Carlisle and Wright manage the Eden Playhouse in South Bend. -[3]-. According to Wright, the area is not well-known for musical productions, but she hopes The Triumph of Lester Beebe will change that. "Todd and I are also counting on local interest to help in building an audience for the show," she said.

Playing the role of Beebe is actor Henry Thomas. Veteran performer Neil Chandler plays his father, while the roles of Beebe's sisters, Mandy and Corinne, will be realized by Stephanie O'Connor and Audrey Blanco. Following the run in South Bend, Carlisle and Wright will take the show to New York in August for its Broadway debut. -[4]-. Dear Mr. Hanks,

Last month I purchased a used Capri 1025 from you. At first, the car seemed like a great deal, especially with the $300 dollar discount I received. I bought the car because I have to travel a long distance to work each day, and with gas being so expensive these days I needed a car that was more fuel-efficient. You were right; the smaller car did save me about $30 in gas each week. Unfortunately, after about two weeks, the car started making a clanking noise if I went faster than 50 kilometers per hour. I took it to my mechanic, Smooth Rides, and had them evaluate the problem. They determined that the entire engine would need to be replaced, due to a crack down the middle of it. In total, the labor and engine parts will cost about $1,000. I assume that since I only purchased the car a month ago, I am well within the 2-year limit to the guarantee and Al's Autos will cover the cost of the repairs. June 20, Monday – Successful author and restaurant owner Rodney Sanford visits our library to discuss methods regarding operating a restaurant that are demonstrated in his latest book. Mr. Sanford will sign his book for participants after the event.

June 23, Wednesday – A fun, interactive event full of music for preschoolers and toddlers with their guardians. Songs about the different seasons and weather will be played along with various instruments. No registration required to join this exciting musical class.
